London was very cold and foggy. Ebenezer Scrooge was working hard in his office. His secretary, Bob Cratchit, was writing letters quietly in the next room. It was a small room, with a small fire. Bob was very cold. Scrooge did not give Bob much wood for his fire because he did not like to spend money. Scrooge did not like anything. He did not like the people in the streets or the people he worked with. He especially hated Christmas. Scrooge was an old man. He was very thin, with thin, white hair on his head and face. He had worked in the same dark office for very many years. Once it had been the office of SCROOGE AND MARLEY, and those names were still on the door. But Jacob Marley had died seven years before and Scrooge worked on without him.

Mohammad Hatta was a prominent politician in Indonesia who served as its first vice president. His father, Haji Mohammad Djamil, died when he was eight months old. Following the matrilineal society of Minangkabau, his mother raised him and his sister in her family. He pursued the doctorate degree in Netherland and completed all requirements to be awarded it. He also joined Indische Vereeniging which later changed its name into Indonesische Vereeniging. The organization carried the voice of the Indonesian people for their country independence.

Coba Anda jelaskan pengertian skimming, kemudian berikan 3 contoh penggunaan skimming dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Pembahasan :

Pengertian skimming adalah suatu teknik membaca dengan kecepatan tinggi guna mencari hal-hal yang penting atau ide pokok dari suatu bacaan. Teknik membaca ini dilakukan dengan cara membaca suatu bacaan secara cepat dan sekilas guna mendapatkan kesan keseluruhan dan umum.

contoh skimming

1. Memeriksa sebuah bab dalam buku, sebelum memperlajarinya secara serius supaya mendapatkan sebuah gagasan tentang cakupan umum bab yang akan dipelajari.

2. Menyampel beberapa halaman novel atau karya tulis jenis lain guna menentukan apakah karya tulis tersebut adalah bacaan yang bernilai atau bukan.

3. Memeriksa secara cepat sebuah artikel tentang isu kontroversial guna menemukan pandangan pengarang, tanpa memperhatikan argumen pengarang yang spesifik.

4. Memeriksa bahan bacaan untuk menilai apakah bacaan tersebut mengandung jenis informasi yang sedang kita cari.
